Housing is an important consideration for all people living with HIV/AIDS
(PLWHA) especially those on low incomes. PLWHA may be at greater
risk of experiencing an array of issues that will have a significant impact
on their ability to maintain housing. Various types of housing options are
available. Victoria is experiencing a housing crisis and the increased
demand for some housing options has meant that strict eligibility criteria’s
are now in place. Often lengthy waiting times to access more affordable
options such as public housing require PLWHA to consider other options
such as remaining in private rental market or community housing programs.
AHAG is an appointment based confidential housing service available to
PLWHA to assist with exploring housing options and submitting public
housing applications. AHAG also provides housing advice and information,
including referrals to other community service providers that offer
accommodation, support and housing related financial assistance. PLWHA
can also access general housing advice, information and referral services
from local Transitional Housing Managers.
