Private rental is the quickest way to secure housing.  The current housing crisis in Victoria has increased the cost of private rental and affordability is the biggest issue for those on low incomes.  Many people who can not afford to rent privately on their own consider sharing a house or flat with someone else. 

AHAG has developed a private rental notice board to assist people looking for someone to share or to locate properties available for rent.  There are also various forms of housing related financial assistance available to assist people with securing private rental.  You should apply for financial assistance such as the Bond Loan Scheme prior to signing a lease as approval is dependent on eligibility criteria and availability of funds.  If you secure a private rental property you would not be considered eligible for early housing status with the Office of Housing.  AHAG can provide you with advice regarding the most appropriate housing option for your current situation.
